One of the top independent schools for boys in Canada, Crescent School spans 37 acres in midtown Toronto. Now in our second century, we provide rich and diverse experiences and opportunities for boys in Grades 3–12 to learn, grow and thrive. Character has always been at the centre of a Crescent education supporting our mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Since 1913, Crescent School’s focus has been on character development. It is part of our DNA and involves a deep, uncompromising commitment to three essential areas we believe bring out the best in boys: relational learning, mentoring and character-in-action. A school that truly understands what makes boys tick, Crescent is here to meet your son’s development needs every step of the way.
Finding the right school for your son is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Thank you for considering Crescent School. We invite you to apply through our online application form. Learn more about us by attending an Open House or taking a virtual tour. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus.
A Crescent education is exciting, fulfilling and broad. Our curriculum is taught by highly motivated, supportive teachers who understand that establishing a relationship with your son unlocks the door to learning and engages him in his character development. Your son will be celebrated for both his work and his work ethic as we guide him academically and emotionally on his journey to becoming a Man of Character.
Character-in-Action programs are Crescent's co-curricular activities that provide boys with ample opportunities to develop character outside the classroom. Through clubs and teams in the arts, business, robotics and athletics, your son will discover new interests and build his leadership skills. And our outreach programs will allow him to gain compassion for others both in our community and abroad.
The generosity of our Crescent community provides vital support for our campus development, signature academic and co-curricular programs, and Student Financial Assistance. Contributions, no matter what their size, allow us to deliver the best possible education for our boys and help ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission: Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Crescent School doesn’t slow down when regular classes are out. We offer a Summer Academic Program available to all high school students, as well as summer camps for children 4 to 13 years old. Our Successful Start program is a special academic prep program exclusively available to Crescent students.
Employment at Crescent School is an opportunity to build a rewarding career and belong to a dynamic community where all are respected for their contributions. Our employees share a commitment to excellence that has made us one of the top schools for boys in the world. An equal-opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation and benefits and believe strongly in workplace accessibility.
Crescent School recognizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a significant tool for learning and innovation. Our approach is to guide students in using AI responsibly, ethically, and effectively.
Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence
All student use of AI is governed by the Crescent AI Framework, which aligns with our academic honesty policy and our mission to develop Men of Character. This framework outlines the different levels of AI use permitted, from foundational skill building without AI to collaborative use for specific tasks. Faculty will provide clear expectations for when and how AI tools may be used for any given assignment. Students are required to be transparent and honest about their use of AI, citing it appropriately and ensuring that the work they submit accurately reflects their own learning and capabilities.
Academic Integrity & The AI Integration Framework
The following section shall be read in conjunction with the School’s academic integrity policy and explicitly aligns with the Crescent AI Integration Framework.
At Crescent School, the acceptable use of Generative AI is not static; it is determined by the specific AI Level (0–4) assigned to each assessment or activity. Students must adhere strictly to the restrictions and allowances defined by the specific level designated by their teacher for that task.
Level 0 (No AI): Students must rely solely on their own knowledge and skills; no AI use is permitted at any stage.
Levels 1–4 (Assisted to Full Use): AI use is permitted only within the specific scope defined by the level (e.g., for editing only, for brainstorming only, or for task completion).
An academic offence occurs when a student operates outside the boundaries of the assigned AI Level. Specifically, it is an offence to:
Violate the Assigned Level: Use Generative AI tools in a Level 0 assessment, or use AI capabilities that exceed the permissions of the assigned level (e.g., using AI to generate new content during a Level 1 "Assisted Editing" assignment).
Fail to Disclose (Transparency): Submit work involving AI without the required disclosure. For Levels 1 through 4, students must submit an AI disclosure statement and/or link(s) to the AI chat logs/evidence of the process with their final submission.
Misrepresent Authorship: Represent AI-generated ideas, data, or content as one’s own. All AI-generated content allowed under Levels 3 and 4 must be properly cited using MLA or APA format.
To ensure the integrity of the AI Integration Framework, teachers rely on human-centric verification methods rather than automated detection alone.
Process Verification: Teachers may review the student's submitted AI chat logs and disclosure statements to ensure the "process" aligns with the assigned AI Level.
Student Conferences: Teachers may meet with a student to discuss their assignment viva voce (orally) to verify their understanding of the content and the process used to create it.
Use of Detection Software: The School advises caution regarding the use of AI-detection software. These tools can produce false positives, flagging human-written content as AI-generated. To protect students from improper accusations and to respect data privacy, reliance should not be placed solely on these software programs.
