Medical Emergency/Fatality

Accidents and emergencies are unpredictable. While some emergencies may only need first aid care, others may require emergency medical attention. If unsure of the seriousness, dial 9-1-1. Medical emergencies involving any student or faculty/staff must be reported to the nurse using a medical incident report.

Procedures:
Daytime (weekdays), and Evenings/Weekends/Holidays:
  1. Evaluate the scene to determine what assistance is needed.
  2. Try to keep the area around the scene of emergency clear from spectators, etc.
  3. Call 9-1-1, remain calm, and stay on the phone until the dispatcher hangs up. The dispatcher may provide instructions on how to care for the injured person.
  4. Please notify the following:
    1. Daytime (weekdays):
      1. Reception (dial 0 from any school landline or 416-449-2556)
      2. The school nurse (416-999-1828) during daytime (weekdays).
    2. Evenings/Weekends/Holidays:
      1. Report to facilities (416-999-1211).
  5. If a coat or blanket is available, use it to cover the injured person.
  6. Begin first aid and continue until paramedics arrive. Do not move the individual unless there is a danger of further injury.
  7. Stay with the injured person until medical assistance arrives.
  8. When the accident/incident is complete, please remember to complete the student or staff incident report and an AED Provider Call Report Form if an AED was used.
