At a Parent Assembly earlier this month, I unveiled
Breakthrough 2030, our new five-year strategic plan. This plan recognizes that building a thriving institution and driving meaningful change rarely result from a single groundbreaking initiative. Rather, it’s about steady, thoughtful steps building upon each other to create real momentum over time.
It is with this spirit that we crafted our new strategic plan. The plan outlines twelve strategic initiatives across four pillars: Academics, People, Community, and Campus. These initiatives aim to deepen what Crescent does best, refine areas for improvement, and boldly explore future possibilities. Through this persistent effort, we can achieve transformative excellence.
The notion of momentum leading to mastery is also an apt corollary for character development. Our School’s mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise, is our reason for being. We know that the road to character is a lifelong journey that begins at home with the values we learn from our families. It is further shaped in school where teachers model character and help instill traits such as discipline, responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. Crescent students have countless ways to develop their character through learning experiences, co-curricular teams and clubs, trips and excursions, and more.
We collectively beam with pride at graduation when our “men of character” cross the stage to collect their diplomas. While grads often comment on the character they formed during their time at Crescent in the self-reflection read as they approach the podium, we know their character journey continues after graduation.
I frequently meet with alumni when they return to campus to share their experiences with their younger brothers, at local, national, and international gatherings, and at our spring reunion. This is when, often years and even decades later, we observe the real fruits of our labour.
Crescent alumni are making their mark globally as trailblazers, changemakers, and leaders whose impact is felt in virtually every industry and sector. Some are pioneering advancements in medicine, driving technological innovation, creating award-winning art and media, or shaping public policy. They are global citizens—humanitarians, environmentalists, educators, and entrepreneurs—applying their intellect and integrity to some of the world’s greatest challenges.
What unites them is more than professional success; it’s the Crescent foundation of character. Through character traits such as compassion, curiosity, and courage, they are not only successful in what they do, but meaningful in how they do it.
Our alumni often tell me how Crescent set the trajectory of their lives in motion. They’ll trace it back to meaningful relationships with teachers, school experiences that sparked a passion, or times they were pushed beyond their comfort zones to uncover true talents. It was rarely, if ever, a result of a single thing. It was the steady, thoughtful, and yet highly transformative impact of their Crescent education.
