Crescent’s varsity rugby team set two records this year, winning their first-ever Division 1 gold at the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) championships at the end of May, and going on to win another gold medal at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships (OFSAA) championships in mid-June. Coach Trood credits the team for supporting one another and working hard. “I think they realized the special things that we were creating during practice,” he says. “Over the course of the season, we pushed them. We asked a lot of them. And they kept on wanting more.”
There was another type of pitch where Crescent boys found success this spring. The senior baseball team won CISAA gold for the first time, qualifying for OFSAA. In the CISAA finals, Crescent played St. Michael’s College School, a team that has consistently won gold. “It was a very tight game,” says coach Mike Brisbois. Down two runs as they headed into the sixth inning, Crescent’s team scored four more runs and then managed to keep their opponents at bay for the remainder of the game, winning 6–4. “We had a strong team of guys who are very skilled and worked well together,” says Brisbois. “It was a good year for baseball.”
Finally, the Crescent-Havergal Senior Ultimate team defended their CISAA title and finished a record fifth at the OFSAA championships. The team members clicked on the field, as evidenced by their strong finish.
These weren’t Crescent’s only big accomplishments in athletics this spring. Below is a list of highlights. Congratulations to all of our athletes!
