It is great to be singing again! The Crescent School Men and Boys' Choir (Grades 3 to 12) is back and rehearsing in preparation for this year's concerts and the 20th Anniversary Choir Trip to England and Scotland, planned for November 2023.
Registration is underway! The following items are due on November 15, 2022:
Registration paperwork can be submitted to Dr. Boyes in the Lower School office or Ms. Cislak in the MSUS Library by November 15, 2022.
Background
The choir trips began with the strategic objective of raising the profile of singing at Crescent, expanding the scope of the Arts experiences for boys, building a tradition of high-level, high-profile choral experiences for boys to have on the international stage, and giving the boys the opportunity to see, hear and perform at concerts and venues where boys' choirs are held in a position of high regard.
This upcoming trip to Edinburgh, York, Cambridge and Windsor/London is exciting because the venues for us to perform are now reflective of a more sophisticated choral sound and level of choral excellence. The boys' choir is now a Men and Boys' Choir and is a significant and meaningful way that our boys share in a performance experience that crosses divisional lines, each participant being equal (yet different) in talent and ability to their fellow choristers.

FAQs
Who can attend?
The choir trip is for all interested singers. Boys in Grades 3–6 in 2023–2024 must travel with a parent. Boys in Grades 7–12 may travel on their own. Boys need to be in the choir this year to attend, as we are building our sound and choral excellence and preparing for these signature events. Additional family members like grandparents or siblings may participate in the trip, provided spaces for interested choristers have been allocated.
When are the practices?
The Grade 7–12 Choir for students and teachers opens to new members on November 18 in the LS Music Room, Room 102, at 7:30 a.m. The practices will be weekly on Fridays (same time and location). Students who wish to participate in the trip should start attending the weekly practices.
The LS Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 3–4 p.m. in the amphitheatre. The choir will run until March and the Tour Choir will have some rehearsals in May and June. If your son is interested in participating in the trip, he should start to attend practices as of November 16.
How many families and boys usually attend?
We expect demand will be very high for the 20th-anniversary Choir Trip! Our trips usually have 70–90 singers and family members.
What about missing school?
We ensure the boys have work time on the trip. They will only miss four school days due to the November long weekend and parent-teacher interviews. For an Upper School student, that is just a few missed classes managed easily with pre-planning.
The first payment seems soon! Why is that?
The travel industry is experiencing a resurgence of travel. We expect a large group and we want to secure our flights and key hotels with deposits, and ensure we are all in the same hotel and the standard we want with the best possible price. First payment is due November 15, 2022.
What teachers are travelling on the trip? Is it true they sing as well?
Yes! Some of the teachers will be singing with the boys in the Men and Boys’ Choir. We are still determining who will be able to attend, but I can confirm Ms. Cislak, Mr. Barton and Ms. Fraser Burke (our accompanist) will attend.
