Parking Lot Map

Parking Lot Map and Instructions (Sep. 2020)

Our drop-off and pick-up rules are in place to keep everyone safe; following them is a way we can show compassion for each other. The respect and responsibility we demonstrate in the parking lot are important lessons in character for our boys.

We have also improved traffic flow by adapting our parking lot guidelines over the past week. In particular, you will now hear us referring to “the chute” – the zone that stretches along the front of the Manor House. This is where you must drop off and pick up students, no matter what grade your son is in.

Which Lane To Use
If you are arriving to pick up or drop off your son, you must drive along the parking lot perimeter lane to approach the chute. This is a change from last year. Now we are designating the central parking lot lanes solely for cars entering or exiting parking spaces.

Morning Drop-Off
The chute opens for morning drop-off at 8 a.m. However, all boys must wait outside until the noted screening time before they can enter the school. Please schedule your drop-off time accordingly.
  • Lower School screening & school entry begins at 8 a.m.
  • Middle School screening & school entry begins at 8:15 a.m.
  • Upper School screening & school entry begins at 8:30 a.m.
Boys who arrive early will need to queue in the outdoor student line-up until their screening time.

Fill the chute! Please drive up as far as you can toward the green drop-off banner in the chute. Move forward to fill the chute, leaving no space between your vehicle and the one ahead.

Be ready! Please ensure that your son is ready to get out of the car quickly. He should have his mask on, school bag in hand (not in the trunk), and be sitting on the passenger side of the car. Boys carrying cellphones should have them at the ready, as they will need these for screening.

Follow instructions! You may proceed through the drop-off chute once Crescent staff have moved the cones and begun our drop-off procedures. Please follow all instructions that a staff member gives you. They are working to keep things moving safely for everyone.

Afternoon Pick-Up
Parents should not enter the chute until their son’s grade has been dismissed.
  • Upper School early dismissal: Grade 11 and 12 students will be dismissed between 2:15 and 2:20 p.m. and Grade 9 and 10 students will be dismissed between 2:20 and 2:25 p.m.
  • Lower School pick-up begins at 2:30 p.m. for Grades 3 and 4, and at 2:40 p.m. for Grades 5 and 6.
  • Middle School class dismissal begins at 3 p.m. and their pick-up begins at 3:10 p.m.
  • Upper School regular class dismissal begins at 3:15 p.m.
If you arrive prior to your son’s dismissal time (which is discouraged), you will be directed to find a parking space or to move to the Field House laneway so that you don’t disrupt the traffic flow.

All boys must get into your car from the pick-up chute. The boys are not allowed to walk through the parking lot to reach your car, and parents are not allowed to walk up to the chute to fetch their children.

Middle and Upper School boys who are being picked up will spread out along the entire length of the chute. Lower School boys who are being picked up will wait near the parking circle in cohort groups.

Remember to fill the chute! Continue to pull up as far as you can in the chute, leaving no space between your vehicle and the one ahead.

Lower School families should display their Crescent name plates on the passenger-side window or dashboard of the car to make it easier (and faster) for faculty to bring your son to you at pick-up time. An ideal place for the name plate is on the underside of your car’s passenger-side sun visor.

If You Have Sons In Different Grades
Brothers in different grades should be dropped off at the youngest boy’s scheduled time and picked up at the oldest boy’s scheduled time. Crescent staff will ensure that Lower School boys are waiting safely for afternoon pick-up with their older brothers.

Carpooling
You can carpool with families of other boys in your son’s cohort.

Alternatives To Driving
All boys are encouraged to walk, bike, scooter, rollerblade or take public transit to and from school. We are pleased to see more boys cycling to school than ever. This will go a long way in alleviating the traffic on campus. As per Ontario law, all children under age 18 must wear helmets when they are riding a bicycle. Crescent rules also require that students using skateboards, or any other wheeled devices, wear a helmet.

We will continue to adjust the parking lot guidelines as the year progresses. Each iteration will improve the traffic flow as needed in response to our safety protocols, weather and school routines. We will communicate these changes to you by email and with reminders in the weekly Heads’ messages.

Thank you again for your adaptability and patience at the start of this unusual school year.
