Blind Ambition: Aaron Golub’s Football Journey

How do you play football if you're legally blind? The answer, according to Aaron Golub, is drive, resilience, and teamwork, which he shared with a rapt audience at the Stransman Speaker full-school assembly on Tuesday, April 21. Golub discovered football in seventh grade. There was just one problem—well, two: He was born fully blind in one eye, and can only see a very, very small amount in his right eye. He knew that, to meet the skills of his teammates and opponents, "I had to find a way to bridge that gap."

From an awkward middle-schooler to a top recruit in high school, Golub’s football career ended with a stint in the NFL, inspiring awe and prompting many boys to ask follow-up questions. Committed to daily training, he became a top recruit by the time he reached Grade 12, eventually recruited to Tulane University, where he played for two years as a long snapper and served as a team captain before becoming a free agent in the NFL.

The event was sponsored by the Leadership in Sports Endowment in Memory of John Stransman P’03, ’05.
