LUNA Eclipse Shines in the Spotlight

Crescent’s campus transformed into a sprawling, lively gallery on April 16, with sculptures, paintings, dramatic performances, and musical concerts proudly displayed as we celebrated our curricular arts for LUNA Eclipse.

The evening began with a community barbecue, followed by the official opening ceremonies as the excitement built for the evening ahead. Families, friends and Crescent staff filled the hallways and rooms as they took in exhibits and performances, and the campus was abuzz until the very last performance of the evening.

LUNA is a unique Crescent event that brings together all divisions of the School, and Head of Arts Godric Latimer-Kim balances the exhibition carefully so that it doesn’t overwhelm. “I want it to feel special and intimate and very ‘Crescent,’” she says.

The impact that LUNA has on students is significant. “For some boys, it’s their first LUNA, and they don’t quite grasp the magnitude of the event,” says Latimer-Kim. “They know their family will see their work, but they often realize at the last minute that all of their peers will see it, and many families.” Over the years, Latimer-Kim says that she has seen how positive feedback on the boys’ work by people they don’t know is very validating.

Beyond positive compliments, Latimer-Kim says that LUNA is character-building as well. Exhibiting at LUNA often creates a powerful “aha” moment for the boys as they see a continuum of work and talent from the youngest boys in Lower School to our Grade 12 boys in Upper School. “It takes a lot of courage to participate in an event like LUNA,” she says. “And I’ve seen how it can lead to a growth mindset, especially in our younger students who are inspired by the artwork of their older peers.”
