Summer Renovations at Crescent

The Crescent campus was busier than usual this summer. On top of a record number of Crescent Camp campers, robust Summer Academic and Successful Start Programs, and ongoing construction as part of the Our Way Forward campaign, we added campus renovations to the list of summer activities.

Our new strategic plan, Breakthrough 2030, identifies renewal and special maintenance projects that support and enrich the school’s critical campus infrastructure as a key priority. While large projects like our new community hall, school entrance, and student common areas are integral to campus revitalization, so too is the need to upgrade and refresh our aging infrastructure.

Some of the key maintenance projects we tackled this summer included:

  • Solarium Restoration: We replaced the copper roof on the Manor House solarium, and due to the building's heritage designation, no ordinary roofer would do!. We hired a specialized copper smith, an artisan skilled in fabricating and installing copper roofing systems and custom-fit components, who meticulously restored the roof to its original splendour. • Heritage Hallway: We tore apart the Formal Garden courtyard to fully seal and waterproof the subterranean hallway leading to the CCL to address long-standing water issues. The interior hallway was reinforced during the repair work to ensure the passageway remained safe while the heavy work occurred above. Once the project was complete, workers repaired the hallway ceiling, walls, and baseboards, removing the signs of many years of water damage. See photos from the renovation.
  • Lower School: We enhanced all common areas by raising ceiling heights, replacing carpets with tile, updating bathrooms and the Margaret Donnelly Library, and replacing interior classroom windows with more modern, tempered glass units. We also added two additional office spaces at the rear of the library. Renovations to the Lower School classroom interiors are planned for next summer. See photos from the renovation.

  • Upper Gym: We installed a new roof, resurfaced the floor, and reconfigured the nets, bleachers, and main entrance to accommodate the new gym access necessitated by the Our Way Forward construction. See photos from the renovation.
