One of the top independent schools for boys in Canada, Crescent School spans 37 acres in midtown Toronto. Now in our second century, we provide rich and diverse experiences and opportunities for boys in Grades 3–12 to learn, grow and thrive. Character has always been at the centre of a Crescent education supporting our mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Since 1913, Crescent School’s focus has been on character development. It is part of our DNA and involves a deep, uncompromising commitment to three essential areas we believe bring out the best in boys: relational learning, mentoring and character-in-action. A school that truly understands what makes boys tick, Crescent is here to meet your son’s development needs every step of the way.
Finding the right school for your son is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Thank you for considering Crescent School. We invite you to apply through our online application form. Learn more about us by attending an Open House or taking a virtual tour. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus.
A Crescent education is exciting, fulfilling and broad. Our curriculum is taught by highly motivated, supportive teachers who understand that establishing a relationship with your son unlocks the door to learning and engages him in his character development. Your son will be celebrated for both his work and his work ethic as we guide him academically and emotionally on his journey to becoming a Man of Character.
Character-in-Action programs are Crescent's co-curricular activities that provide boys with ample opportunities to develop character outside the classroom. Through clubs and teams in the arts, business, robotics and athletics, your son will discover new interests and build his leadership skills. And our outreach programs will allow him to gain compassion for others both in our community and abroad.
The generosity of our Crescent community provides vital support for our campus development, signature academic and co-curricular programs, and Student Financial Assistance. Contributions, no matter what their size, allow us to deliver the best possible education for our boys and help ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission: Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Crescent School doesn’t slow down when regular classes are out. We offer a Summer Academic Program available to all high school students, as well as summer camps for children 4 to 13 years old. Our Successful Start program is a special academic prep program exclusively available to Crescent students.
Employment at Crescent School is an opportunity to build a rewarding career and belong to a dynamic community where all are respected for their contributions. Our employees share a commitment to excellence that has made us one of the top schools for boys in the world. An equal-opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation and benefits and believe strongly in workplace accessibility.
By Barry Gordon ’87, P’21, Chair of the Board of Governors
Here is an excerpt of the speech Barry Gordon ’87, P’21, Chair of the Board of Governors, gave at Prize Day on June 14, 2018.
I am honoured to be speaking to you in my second year as the Chair of the Board of Governors of this great place we call Crescent School. Those of you who were here for my remarks last year may recall my focus was on the Crescent family. In essence, I noted that we are all more like family than just a collection of students, teachers, parents, administrators and alumni. This year proved that again.
As the Chair, I’m as close as a parent can get to this fantastic place, and I am extremely proud of this family. We are gathered here today to celebrate the myriad accomplishments of some outstanding boys. But it should not be lost on everyone that while some boys are singled out for special attention, we’re also here to honour the hard work, sacrifice and love of all these boys, and all of their families. Be proud of all you have accomplished.
I need to start off by offering thanks to our great faculty whose commitment both in the classroom and with co-curricular activities is a key differentiator for Crescent. Our facilities are amazing. But the people are what brings Crescent to life. Our first-class educators work long days, many nights and often weekends to make sure the boys have a special experience. The Board of Governors considers these people our greatest asset, and I know you agree. Mr. Fellin and the leadership team are completely dedicated to ensuring that Crescent continues to improve, while holding tight to the school’s most honoured traditions. I offer deep thanks to them.
Boys, today I’d also like to add a new tradition and ask you to show your thanks to your parents for the often extraordinary sacrifices they make in order to send you to Crescent School. Trust me when I say that one day it will hit you just how lucky you are that your parents cared enough to send you here. Please give them a huge round of applause.
I share the responsibility for the governance of the school with 17 extremely dedicated, talented and experienced people. Every single one of them serves in order to make a difference: setting the School's strategy, monitoring finances, and worrying about pretty much everything that could impact the boys and Crescent's stellar reputation. We take our responsibilities very seriously and I assure you that it is no light burden. So a heartfelt thank-you to my fellow governors.
My congratulations to all the graduates who now move on to exciting challenges in universities all over the world. The list of destinations for these boys is amazing. Over $1 million in scholarship dollars have been offered to attract these boys to various programs around the world. Pretty impressive.
Gentlemen, remember these years. As Head Boy Max Bennett said to the Board on Monday night, “I had no idea time would go so fast.” Enjoy your summer and be refreshed and energized for the fall. Next year will be another amazing year.
