Reichert Fellowship Advances Relational Learning at Crescent

The Crescent Centre for Boys’ Education (CCBE) has named psychologist Dr. Michael Reichert as its first Research Fellow, deepening a partnership with Crescent School that spans more than two decades. Dr. Reichert is credited with pioneering the concept of relational learning and its effectiveness in boys’ education.

Dr. Reichert’s first book, Reaching Boys Teaching Boys, was published in 2010. It documented the findings of his seminal research with over 1,500 boys across six countries, which explored the elements of successfully teaching boys. Crescent was part of that inaugural global study, as well as a subsequent study which served as the basis of Reichert’s next book, I Can Learn From You: Boys as Relational Learners. His most recent book, How to Raise a Boy: The Power of Connection to Build Good Men, delves deeper into the vital role parents and educators can play in creating a “safety net” for boys.

“For more than two decades, Crescent School has partnered with Dr. Reichert to deepen its understanding of how boys learn and thrive,” says Dr. Sandra Boyes, Executive Director of Professional Learning and Research. “What began as a shared interest in new research on boys’ learning has evolved into Crescent’s comprehensive commitment to relational learning, and now, Dr. Reichert’s role as the CCBE’s first Research Fellow.”

In this role, Dr. Reichert will visit Crescent School several times during the 2026–2027 school year. Among his projects will be mentoring the Student Services team and developing a pilot project with the Upper School Academic team to build emotional literacy for all boys. He will also continue to partner with Crescent on parent education programming.

These initiatives align with Crescent’s Breakthrough 2030 strategic plan, amplifying The Crescent Way by fostering student well-being, engagement, and belonging.
