LS Character Education

Character Education for Lower School Boys

The Character Education program is at the heart of the Lower School experience at Crescent School. Grounded in our mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise, is intentionally designed to help students understand that character is not simply taught; it is cultivated through daily experiences, meaningful relationships, thoughtful reflection, and purposeful action.

From their first day in the Lower School, students embark on a developmental journey centred on Crescent's 12 character competencies. These competencies are explicitly taught through dedicated learning experiences and intentionally embedded throughout the academic curriculum and Character-in-Action programs.

Character development at Crescent is both intentional and authentic. Through active, experiential, and relational learning, boys are provided with meaningful opportunities to reflect on who they are, who they aspire to become, and the positive impact they can have on others. Faculty serve as mentors and role models, helping students make connections between their experiences, their actions, and the values that guide our community.

As students progress through the Lower School, they build an evolving portrait of their character growth. These experiences, reflections, and demonstrations of learning are documented as part of the Crescent Diploma, providing students with a living record of their development across academic, co-curricular, and character domains. This process encourages boys to recognize that character is not a destination, but a lifelong pursuit. One that prepares them to contribute with integrity, compassion, courage, and purpose both within the Crescent community and beyond.
