A Collaborative Effort to Advance Student Wellbeing and Belonging

A generous founding gift from the Sorbara Family is helping four Toronto independent schools deepen their commitment to student wellbeing and belonging.

This first-of-its-kind initiative was established in August 2026 by Crescent School, The Bishop Strachan School, Havergal College, and Royal St. George’s College; the Wellbeing and Belonging Collaborative Fund recognizes wellbeing and belonging as a foundational element of education. The schools will share practices, candid insights and effective strategies to help young people flourish.

While honouring each school’s unique culture, the collaboration will support continuous improvement in building inclusive “cultures of care” for students and the adults who guide them.

“Wellbeing and belonging don’t live in abstractions,” says Christina Sorbara P’30 and ’32 on behalf of the family. “They live in the specifics of each school’s culture. What works in one place may not translate directly to another, but the learning almost always does. This initiative creates space for real collaboration and shared learning in service of our students and communities.”

Building on its connections to each of the four partner schools—including ties to Crescent School dating back five decades—the Sorbara Family pledged $1 million to establish an endowment to be shared equally among the schools. The Crescent School Foundation will administer its portion of the endowment, which welcomes additional contributions from individuals and organizations who share its purpose.
