Parent Volunteers Launch “12 Days Of Holiday”

Like everything else in 2020, this year’s Holiday Sale organized by the Crescent Parent Association (CPA) was completely different from previous years – but it still retained the festive community spirit that makes this annual event so popular.
For decades, the Holiday Sale has been a highlight in the Crescent School calendar. Held each November, it brings the Crescent community together for a fun shopping experience that is also a significant CPA fundraiser.

This year, mindful of Crescent’s COVID-19 precautions, the volunteer committee started planning in May to transform the event into an online experience. Led by CPA Holiday Sale Co-chairs Sarah Luxton and Lisa Ernst, the committee drew on a range of skills and experience to bring their vision for the revamped event to life.

Launched on November 27, 2020, the reimagined event offered two ways to help make holiday preparations extra-special and as stress-free as possible:

  • @12daysofholiday on Instagram – a 12-day series of stories and posts that spotlighted Holiday Sale vendors and Crescent community members sharing holiday music, favourite recipes and ideas for giving back to the community.
  • The Holiday Shoppe – an online storefront selling food boxes, plants and wreaths, wine, gingerbread house kits and more.
The Crescent community enthusiastically embraced both offerings. The Instagram account quickly gained 500 followers and online Holiday Shoppe sales were brisk.

Vendors who had been part of the previous years’ Holiday Sale events were glad to pay a nominal fee to be featured in the 12 Days of Holiday Instagram stories. (The 12 Days Of Holiday team provided Instagram training for vendors who were unfamiliar with the platform.) The 24 vendor spotlights filled quickly, with more on a waitlist. As one vendor said, “This is the perfect year to support small & local businesses. We appreciate it!”

Proceeds from the Holiday Shoppe sales will support the CPA fundraising efforts assisting Crescent families who have been impacted by COVID-19, as well as the CPA’s commitment to endowed financial aid through the CPA Centennial Scholarship.
