Crescent Honours Remembrance Day

Crescent School observed Remembrance Day this year by adapting traditions to new circumstances.
Instead of the customary full-school assembly, a special video was watched by all students and faculty on November 11, starting at 10:45 a.m. and with a minute of silence at 11 a.m. The video featured students sharing music, drama and poetry that reflected the solemnity of the occasion. A Grade 6 performing arts class enacted dramatic tableaux, Head Boy Tega Ajise recited "In Flanders Fields," Grade 11 student Michael Cheng performed "Gabriel's Oboe" (recorded during the 2018 Crescent Choir trip to the Netherlands) and the "Last Post" and "Reveille" were performed by Grade 11 student Larry Hui.

The Remembrance Day video was created by SHIFTED Digital, a video production company formed by Crescent alumni Matthew Cheung ’15, Adrian Chan ’16, Jonathan Libby ’16, Thomas Johnston ’19 and Matthew Bisset ’20. Click here to watch the video.

In the Lower School, the Grade 5 boys painted "remembrance stones" which were placed as symbols of gratitude at Crescent's war memorial in the school's courtyard. The war memorial, donated by the family of faculty member Gord Wotherspoon, is inscribed: "To honour the Crescent Old Boys and staff who served for the cause of peace and freedom."
