Getting To Know Head Boy Tega Ajise
Elected by his peers, Grade 12 student Tega Ajise is Crescent's Head Boy for the 2020-2021 school year. We asked him some questions to learn a bit more about him.
What is your favourite sport?
My favourite sport is basketball. It allows me to express myself in ways when words fall short and has taught me so much about life. Plus, it’s a game that allows for so much creativity and freedom, it sometimes even makes me wonder whether the founders of other sports got their inspiration from basketball.
What is your favourite book?
If you asked me this question in 2014, without even blinking I would say Divergent by Veronica Roth. However, now that it’s 2020…I would still say it’s Divergent by Veronica Roth. That doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t read a lot of books (wouldn’t blame you for thinking that though), but the book is supremely captivating. If you want to know more, go read it!
Do you have any pets?
No, but believe me it’s for the best. The pet would have to take care of me more than I’d be taking care of it.
What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
Honestly if anybody says their favourite thing to do on the weekend is anything other than sleep, they’ve got to be lying to you. If you have had the opportunity to wake up without an alarm after a long week, you will truly understand the phrase “appreciate the little things in life.” Always a great perk of the weekend.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Somehow, I naturally feel the best way to answer this question is by describing a scene: A quiet neighbourhood with houses encircling a large open field containing many trees that vary in size. Also, if there was a fountain at the heart of it, that would be pretty cool too.
What is your greatest extravagance?
If you know me, you probably know I’m a bit “prodigal” when it comes to food sometimes. I’ll just leave it at that...
Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could bend all four elements like the Avatar. As of right now I can only bend three.
What is your most treasured possession?
My most treasured possession would be my bible. This is my guide for life, all the things I do & all the decisions I make. I would be morally lost without it.
What do you want to be “when you grow up”?
A leader. No matter where I end up, I want to be somebody who’s able to influence the lives of others for the better.
Who are your heroes?
My parents will always be my heroes. I can’t name anybody who’s capable of what they have done for me in my life.
What is your personal motto?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me - Philippians 4:13.
What is your favourite place at Crescent School?
My favourite place at the school is the CCL. This place has harboured so many meaningful experiences for me, from participating in music performances, watching plays, reflecting on PLDs (Peer-Led Discussions) and speaking at Black History Month panels. The CCL is a special place.
What are you excited about for this year?
What am I excited about? What am I not excited about?! Being back in the building has opened up a lot of new hope in this weird circumstance, but I’m excited to be able to implement creative ways of keeping the school community connected and bringing initiatives to make school life more relaxing.
What do you remember most about your first day at Crescent School?
I cherish my first day at Crescent as much as I will cherish my last. While I remember some of the important details like standing in a circle and playing the name game, one thing I remember so vividly was some of my classmates vocalizing the “What Are Those” Jurassic Park meme over and over… and over again.
If you could give advice to Crescent’s Grade 3s, what would you say?
You’ve been given a boatload of special opportunities being here at Crescent! Now is the best time of your life to try whatever you’re interested in, because even if you fall flat on your face and fail, you can always get up.
