One of the top independent schools for boys in Canada, Crescent School spans 37 acres in midtown Toronto. Now in our second century, we provide rich and diverse experiences and opportunities for boys in Grades 3–12 to learn, grow and thrive. Character has always been at the centre of a Crescent education supporting our mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Since 1913, Crescent School’s focus has been on character development. It is part of our DNA and involves a deep, uncompromising commitment to three essential areas we believe bring out the best in boys: relational learning, mentoring and character-in-action. A school that truly understands what makes boys tick, Crescent is here to meet your son’s development needs every step of the way.
Finding the right school for your son is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Thank you for considering Crescent School. We invite you to apply through our online application form. Learn more about us by attending an Open House or taking a virtual tour. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus.
A Crescent education is exciting, fulfilling and broad. Our curriculum is taught by highly motivated, supportive teachers who understand that establishing a relationship with your son unlocks the door to learning and engages him in his character development. Your son will be celebrated for both his work and his work ethic as we guide him academically and emotionally on his journey to becoming a Man of Character.
Character-in-Action programs are Crescent's co-curricular activities that provide boys with ample opportunities to develop character outside the classroom. Through clubs and teams in the arts, business, robotics and athletics, your son will discover new interests and build his leadership skills. And our outreach programs will allow him to gain compassion for others both in our community and abroad.
The generosity of our Crescent community provides vital support for our campus development, signature academic and co-curricular programs, and Student Financial Assistance. Contributions, no matter what their size, allow us to deliver the best possible education for our boys and help ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission: Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Crescent School doesn’t slow down when regular classes are out. We offer a Summer Academic Program available to all high school students, as well as summer camps for children 4 to 13 years old. Our Successful Start program is a special academic prep program exclusively available to Crescent students.
Employment at Crescent School is an opportunity to build a rewarding career and belong to a dynamic community where all are respected for their contributions. Our employees share a commitment to excellence that has made us one of the top schools for boys in the world. An equal-opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation and benefits and believe strongly in workplace accessibility.
Another year is now in the books and I have the opportunity to give you the Board Chair’s assessment of how Crescent is doing. As you know, the Board of Governors at Crescent School does not focus on day-to-day operations of the school. Rather, we focus on strategy, the financial well-being of the school, reputation, risk management and Headmaster oversight. My perspective is in many respects highly personal, for as many of you know I have a deep attachment to Crescent and what I like to think of as the broader Crescent family.
This is my last year as Chair of the Board. The past three years have gone by very quickly, and it’s hard to believe that I first joined the Board in 2011. The school has accomplished so many things in that time. Countless awards have been won – academic, athletic, co-curricular – and Crescent graduates are heading off to some of the most prestigious universities in the world. It is for me an annual highlight when I have the opportunity to look at the list of universities and colleges around the world that Crescent graduates have chosen to attend. The school’s focus at the guidance level on finding the right program for our boys, starting with a deep understanding of their interests and passions, strengths (and weaknesses), is yielding some really impressive results. I offer my congratulations and thanks to the Guidance and University Counselling team who have spearheaded this drive to really understand each boy and work on the best fit for him.
Much of my tenure as Chair has been focused on helping steer the “People” and “Place” pillars of the Strategic Plan 2015-2020. This work took place in three stages. First, Mr. Fellin and the leadership team started with the challenge of building our Portrait of a Graduate. This initiative identified the knowledge, skills and character traits a Crescent graduate will need to achieve future success, wellbeing and purpose in his career, community and family life. Next, the team articulated the academic plan (which we’ve coined The Crescent Way) that details the integrated and intentional approach to Crescent’s curricular and co-curricular program that will deliver on our Portrait of a Graduate; and finally, what the campus of the future must look like to accomplish the mission. You will hear more on the master campus planning exercise in the near future. It is really exciting.
I regret that I wasn’t able to deliver the remarks traditionally given by the Board Chair at Prize Day this year. It is always an honour to stand in front of the Crescent community and see all the smiling faces of boys and families alike. However, there couldn’t have been a better “stand-in” than Jamie Coulter, Vice Chair and incoming Chair of the Board. Jamie’s remarks can be accessed [here]. Jamie is a very special guy who I know will be fantastic in the role of Chair.
It has been my honour and privilege to serve on the Board alongside such a committed group of Board governors. These dedicated men and women give so much of their time to make Crescent School the fantastic place that it is. The future is boundless for Crescent and its graduates. I look forward to continuing to watch it unfold.
