Academic Support

Academic support, based on current brain research, is provided by learning specialists in in all three divisions. This includes working with boys who have Individual Education Plans (IEP) or boys who need some individual attention in a specific subject or with a particular assignment.
Our learning specialists also work with teachers to ensure that appropriate learning and testing accommodations are put in place in the classroom for boys with IEPs. Strategies to develop skills in organization, planning, time management, and study and test-taking skills are available to all boys. Services include:

  • Baseline achievement assessments (Lower School)
  • Individualized support
  • Small group support
  • Classroom support
  • Parent partnership
  • Teacher education and partnership
  • Occupational and speech therapy (Lower School)
  • Peer tutoring
  • Homework club (Lower and Middle Schools)
  • Outside referrals for assessments

Accommodations for Boys on IEPs
It is assumed that every student who is enrolled at Crescent School is able to meet the School's academic expectations. For this reason, we will make accommodations, but not change the curriculum for boys on IEPs.  IEPs are developed for boys who have psycho-educational assessments or a medical diagnoses that identifies them as exceptional learners. Documentation must be provided from an educational psychologist or a medical professional describing the exceptionality, the necessary accommodations, and why they are needed.
