Provides 10 community service hours.
Experience one of the world's greatest examples of biodiversity.
This trip includes low-level adventure as well as community service and cultural immersion. Students begin their journey with a hike to San Geraldo Biological Station where they are required to take a guided hike for two hours down a volcano and stay at an education center that is used as a base for daily activities (like trail maintenance and courage/resilience-building activities like solo-sitting in the forest). The trip ends on the tropical beaches of Manuel Antonio and the group volunteer at Kids Saving the Rainforest. Students also get the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Costa Rican culture and the Spanish language with two nights of carefully vetted homestays.
Highlights:
- Lodging at the Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat
- Hiking, ziplining, and whitewater rafting in the rainforest
- Visit with community groups and associations, such as a local school, coffee co-op, soccer clinic and organic farm
- Homestays in host community
