Summer Camps 2020

Our camp programs reflect Crescent School’s excellence in robotics, athletics, business, leadership and the arts.
All Crescent camps are designed in modules of one or two weeks. Campers can sign up for multiple weeks in one program, or mix-and-match programs for a varied camp experience.

Extended Care Option
In the mornings and afternoons, our Extended Care program offers you the flexibility and convenience for early drop-off and late pick-up. Campers will enjoy games and activities led by a qualified counsellor. Healthy, nut-free snacks will be provided. You can sign up for Extended Care when you register your camper.
  • Morning Extended Care: 7:45 to 9 a.m.
  • Afternoon Extended Care: 4 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Cost per day: $30 for morning, $40 for afternoon, $65 for both (pro-rated for four-day weeks)

  • Discovery Camp (ages 6-7)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29*, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 4*, August 10
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Enriching summer days! Discovery Camp’s dynamic programming will provide fun opportunities for campers ages 6-7 to explore athletics, the arts, makerspace and the outdoors, combining these themes with different activities each week. Our young campers will learn new things and build their confidence with programming designed to encourage curiosity and positivity. Each week offers new adventures that will leave the campers with new friends, a love of camp and a love of learning.
    Athletics: Your child will enjoy being active while playing familiar sports and learning new ones. Baseball, soccer, capture-the-flag and dodgeball, as well as Mock Olympics, water balloon baseball and obstacle courses, will foster your child’s athletic abilities and sense of teamwork.
    Arts: Your child will develop artistic skills and develop confidence in their own creativity through fun yet challenging art activities, including making clay impressions, lava lamps, ice-cream in a bag, bath bombs and more.
    Makerspace: Your child will develop their curiosity and collaboration skills through hands-on learning using low-tech tools. Each project will build something out of nothing, requiring individual and group problem-solving and critical thinking.
    Nature: Your child will learn to appreciate the natural world that surrounds them. Fun activities that use all their senses will encourage campers to be curious and to explore the outdoors while developing their self-esteem, confidence and social skills.

  • Explorer Camp (ages 8-10)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29*, July 20
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Collaborative, active fun! Girls and boys in Explorer Camp will enjoy fun activities that challenge them to think critically and collaboratively, with age-appropriate escape rooms, art/improv studios, mad science labs, obstacle courses and camp games. This is a junior version of our Challenge Camp.

    Highlights: Critical thinking, collaboration and creativity! With activities designed to challenge campers, girls and boys in Challenge Camp will enjoy using ingenuity and teamwork in fun activities that include escape rooms, art/improv studios, mad science labs and more.

  • Theatre Arts Camp (ages 10-14)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29 (9-day program, no camp on July 1)
    Hours: 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: This co-ed camp offers young people an opportunity to experience all aspects of creating and presenting an original theatre production. On stage, campers will explore acting techniques, character creation, voice work and various performance media. Behind the scenes, campers will be introduced to script-writing, costuming, set design and the technical aspects of staging a play. A performance for friends and family will be the camp’s grand finale.

  • Budding Architects Camp (ages 8-11)

    Highlights: Imagining, designing and building! This camp engages girls and boys in the basic concepts and processes of architecture. They'll develop their creativity and imagination as they explore visual thinking, urban and environmental planning and design, scale and structure. Campers will demonstrate their new skills using drawing, collage and modelling with different materials.

    Highlights: Campers will engage in a range of creative opportunities that strengthen their creative confidence and give a taste of a variety of art forms. By exploring drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture design throughout the week, campers will develop their imaginations and artistic skills. An art show will showcase their achievements for friends and family at the end of the week.

  • Photography Camp: Introduction to DSLR & Photo Editing (ages 12-14)

    Highlights: Become a photographer extraordinaire! Campers will learn how to use a camera, take the perfect photograph and develop their work digitally, creating a portfolio of images and producing mounted prints to showcase their growth as a photographer. Campers will use both their personal photo-taking device (smart phones, tablets or digital cameras) as well as DSLR cameras provided by Crescent Camps.

  • Inside the Writer's Room: Screenwriting 101 Camp (ages 12-14)

    Offered in week of: July 27
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Campers will explore the ins and outs of screenwriting for film and television. Using real-world examples, campers will learn how some of their favourite shows are made and how they can create their own video content as the new generation of storytellers. A “writer’s room” experience will build their collaborative skills and encourage campers to explore the endless creative possibilities of good story-telling.

Exploring robotics, AI and architecture

  • Introduction to Robotics (ages 10-14)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29*, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 4*, August 10
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: For beginners, this camp engages girls and boys in science, technology, engineering and math to build robots in a supportive and challenge-based setting. Mentored by highly qualified robotics staff, campers will use VEX IQ robotics kits to develop strong technical, assembly and project management skills. Campers will gain experience in collaboration, competition, sportsmanship, leadership, problem-solving and critical thinking.

  • Intensive Robotics Engineering Program (Students entering Grades 9 & 10)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29 (9-day program, no camp on July 1)
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Looking for a greater robotics challenge? Going into Grade 9 or 10? This program is for you! Designed by faculty who lead Crescent School’s highly successful Team 610 robotics team, this 9-day intensive program will provide both theoretical and mechanical skill development. Campers will program and build their own robot, complete with drive-train and receive training on fabrication techniques, hand tools and machinery. Time permitting, campers will also have the opportunity to add functional mechanisms, such as sensors and sub-systems. This one-of-a kind robotics engineering program, combined with daily games and activities, will be the most challenging fun the girls and boys will have all summer.

  • Artificial Intelligence: Object Detection Camp (ages 11-14)

    Offered in week of: June 29
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Learn what makes a robot see! Using Robotics, Python, SDK, OpenCV and more, this technical camp is for young people who have some basic programming knowledge, such as data structure, variable and if-statement. Mentored by a highly qualified computer science teacher and robotics staff, campers will use Cozmo and Python to explore image processing and develop computer vision projects which can detect certain colours/shapes. Campers will gain experience in collaboration, problem-solving, debugging and critical thinking. Campers should bring an Android/IOS device. (One will be provided if required).

  • Minecraft Camp (ages 11-14)

    Offered in weeks of: July 13
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Campers will learn about design, coding, problem identification, and resolution while building teamwork and communication skills. By the end of the week, campers will be able to develop and build parts of the Minecraft world and take action in it, while laying a foundation of computing and coding concepts that they will be able to use in computer programming they do in the future. This camp includes indoor/outdoor camp games and activities throughout the week.

  • AR/VR Exploration Camp (ages 11-14)

    Offered in weeks of: July 20
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: Step into a different reality of your own creation. Campers will explore the world of AR/VR through coding, collaboration and using the imagination to create their experience to share with others. With the help of Co-Spaces, Merge Cubes, Google Expeditions, Lenovo Dreamcast, Oculus Go and Oculus Rift technology, campers will navigate and create experiences they can share with others. This could involve coding, graphics and 3D creations from other programs. This camp includes indoor/outdoor camp games and activities throughout the week.

    Highlights: Learn what makes a skyscraper stand so high, how a suspension bridge works - and more! Campers will explore architectural concepts, designs and processes. They’ll showcase their learning by creating their own structure or space using both building materials and design software.

  • Multi-Sport Camp (ages 8-12)

    Highlights: A varied program of fun physical activities will help girls and boys develop their sports skills. Using Crescent’s superb athletics facilities, campers will enjoy scrimmages and drills in basketball, dodgeball, lacrosse, volleyball, floor hockey and other sports. In addition to skill development, the camp will focus on fun, teamwork and sportsmanship.

    Highlights: Led by Toronto Rush athletes, this camp is for girls and boys who want to develop their Ultimate Frisbee skills and performance levels. Campers will engage in activities and drills that develop their love of the game while building on a foundation of solid skills. Campers will be grouped by age and ability.     Highlights: Led by Toronto Rush athletes, this camp is for experienced Ultimate Frisbee players who want to take their game to the next level. Campers will focus on skill and performance development. Drills and scrimmages will be augmented with debriefs, video analysis, goal-setting and special guest speakers.     Highlights: This co-ed camp, led by award-winning junior golf specialists from Golf Performance Coaches, provides advanced coaching support and is designed for players with previous experience at golf camps and/or clinics. On-course coaching will take place each day on Coppinwood’s three fantastic practice holes. Campers travel by bus to the world-class Coppinwood Golf Club, just 50 minutes from Crescent School.

  • Golf Camp - Thornhill Golf Club (ages 7-13)

    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Bus leaves Crescent at 8:25 a.m., returning at approximately 4:20 p.m.)
    Highlights: This co-ed camp, led by award-winning junior golf specialists from Golf Performance Coaches, is designed for all ability levels. It focuses on developing golf skills and improving physical literacy through a structured and engaging training environment. The campers will have fun while learning about all aspects of the sport. Players will be grouped by age and ability to maximize player experience with coaches. Campers travel by bus to the Thornhill Golf Club, just 30 minutes from Crescent School. Golf clubs can be provided upon request.

  • Leader-in-Training Program (ages 14-16)

    Offered in weeks of: June 29 (9-day program - no camp on July 1)
    Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Highlights: This program offers young people a high-quality opportunity to build their confidence as leaders and develop their critical thinking skills in a fun and engaging way. Gaining meaningful practical experience, Leaders-in-Training will work with a variety of the Crescent Camps programs and learn from guided debriefs following those placements. We emphasize the development of thoughtful and passionate leaders who can create magical experiences for young campers in safe and age-appropriate ways. The program focuses on emotional intelligence, strong communication and exploring each future leader’s strengths and weaknesses; giving them the opportunity to put these skills into practice while receiving appropriate guidance and feedback. Leaders-in-Training will also develop “hard skills” such as safety planning. All Leaders-in-Training will earn a Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification, including updated protocols for concussions, anaphylaxis, and Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
    (Note: At Crescent Camps we believe in the development of our staff. With that in mind, preference for future counselor and LIT volunteer positions will be given to applicants who have completed our Leaders-in-Training program.)

    Highlights: Money matters! Campers will have fun while learning how money works and developing good financial habits, an essential life skill for independence and ambition. This camp engages young people in games and activities that make it fun to learn about money. Earning, spending, saving, investing, borrowing, budgeting and banking will be covered in age-appropriate learning that will foster smart money habits and the ability to make informed financial decisions.

  • Bulls & Bears: Investing 101 (ages 11-14)

    Highlights: Buy low, sell high! Campers will have a blast learning about investing with a hands-on, age-appropriate curriculum, filled with games and lessons. Campers will learn about why you should invest, stocks and bonds and how we trade them, other types of investments, how to value investments, basic financial ratios and concepts, and more. All of these concepts will help foster good future decision-making, financial independence and security, and self-confidence.

  • Debate Camp - Offered by Debate Club Canada (ages 11-16)

    Note: This camp is offered at Crescent by Debate Camp Canada.

    Highlights: Debate Camp has operated academic enrichment summer camps across Canada since 2002. They empower students with the skills of effective communication and teamwork through debate and public speaking. The goal is to create informed and articulate global citizens in a fun and exciting learning environment. The program includes debate, public speaking and Model United Nations. All ability levels are welcome.
