Summer Camps 2020

Crescent Camps will be delivered virtually this summer.

Choose from a wide range of programs that span every interest.

Our camp programs reflect Crescent School’s excellence in technology, athletics, business, leadership, and the arts. Programs are led by Crescent faculty and experienced camp staff.
Most Crescent camps are designed in one-week modules. Programs run in one hour; half-day (2-2.5 hours) and full-day (5 hours) blocks.*
Campers can sign up for one or more programs within a single week or across the six-week camp schedule.

  • Challenge Camp (ages 11-14)

    Highlights: Collaborative, active fun! Girls and boys in Explorer Camp will enjoy fun activities that challenge them to think critically and collaboratively, with age-appropriate virtual escape rooms, art/improv challenges, makerspace activities and camp games. This is a junior version of our Challenge Camp.

  • Backyard Adventure Camp (ages 8-10)

    Highlights: Get outside and explore your own backyard! In this session, campers will develop a deeper understanding of the nature that surrounds them within our beautiful city!   • Theatre Arts Camp (ages 10-14)

    Offered weeks of: June 29 (9 day program)
    Times available: 10:00am - 12:00pm
    Instructor: Godric Latimer-Kim and Jen Johnson
    Highlights: Develop your acting skills and learn new techniques through drama games, and the creation of new characters. Have fun while stretching your performance muscles using such dramatic mediums as improv, movement, voice, characterization, scene study, monologues, and much more. Join Crescent Drama faculty, Jen Johnson and Godric Latimer-Kim as we collaborate to create virtual dramatic pieces to share with friends and family.

  • Budding Architects Camp (ages 8-11)

    Offered weeks of: Weeks of June 29*, July 13, July 27 (*4-day week)

    Highlights: Imagining, designing, and building! This camp engages campers in the basic concepts of architecture, virtually, using items from around the house, and a supply list provided to campers and their parents. Campers will utilize their creativity, by drawing, designing, and building architectural models of their own design, while also learning about and implementing some of the world’s most famous architectural designs and structures! From the Great Pyramids of Giza to the Burj Khalifa, campers will learn how some of the most amazing structures in history were built, and how they can utilize these techniques in their own work! A materials list will be provided.

  • ARTSplosion Camp (ages 8-11)

    Highlights: Campers will learn numerous artistic techniques, through the endless possibilities of creative projects! By working with items from around the house, as well as those from a supply list provided to campers and parents, campers will learn a variety of skills across several art forms. The theme for ARTSplosion this summer is to “explore the beauty of your surroundings.” Through drawing, painting, and sculpting, campers will be encouraged to explore their houses and backyards, and learn that artistic vision and creativity can be found in ordinary objects that we see everyday. By the end of the week, campers will have a collection of art that is unique to them, their family, and the place that they call home! Materials list will be provided.

  • Cartoon Camp (ages 8-11)

    Highlights: Campers will discover cartooning through the exploration of pop art, street art, graphic novels and caricatures, as well as develop their own skills and creativity through a thoughtfully designed program. Activities will include developing a character, creating a setting and culminating with a cartoon strip. Each day will include skill development, a finished masterpiece and time for sharing.

  • Screenwriting Camp (ages 12-14)

    Highlights: In today’s increasingly virtual world, screenwriting is an amazing form of creative expression that is stronger than ever before, even while we are apart! As we have all learned this Spring, through movies, television, and the endless content provided to us by streaming services in the era of “Peak TV”, we all need to be entertained, and sometimes escape to the worlds of our favourite characters. This camp will teach campers how they can create their own movies and TV shows, and the amazing process of putting their stories on paper, which will one day make it to the big screen!

  • Adventure Writing Camp (ages 11-13 and 14-17)

    Offered weeks of: June 22 (for ages 14-17), July 6 (for ages 11-13)

    Highlights: The Adventure Writing Camp challenges players and writers to collaborate and have fun while creating adventures in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. In a safe online camp environment, young Dungeon Masters (DMs) will learn how to write, design, and run games for their friends and family. Immersing themselves into deep and engaging stories full of adventure, intrigue and mystery, this is an opportunity for students to have fun, connect with old friends and make new ones.

  • French Comic Book Camp (ages 11-14)

    Highlights: Get creative in French! This one week program offers campers the opportunity to continue developing their French language skills by writing and designing their own comic book series using Pixton. All four of the French language strands will be covered as campers pitch, design, and present their creative series. With a strong emphasis on sentence structure, grammar concepts and pronunciation, campers will strengthen their overall French language proficiency in time for September!

  • Introduction to Computer Vision through Python (ages 11-13)

    Highlights:  Learn what makes a robot see! Using Python, this technical co-ed camp is for young people who have some basic programming knowledge like data structure, variable, if-statement, etc. Mentored by a highly qualified computer science teacher, campers will explore image processing and develop computer vision projects which can detect certain colour/shape. Campers will gain experience in collaboration, problem-solving, debugging and critical thinking. Campers should have a Windows/OSX computer with a functional webcam.

Tutored by a highly qualified computer science teacher, campers will develop their skills in their preferred choice of programming language - Java or Python.   • Minecraft Camp (ages 11-14)

    Offered weeks of: July 6

    Instructor: Hassan Singer
    Highlights: Campers will learn about design, coding, problem identification, and resolution while building teamwork and communication skills. By the end of the week, campers will be able to develop and build parts of the Minecraft world and take action in it, while laying a foundation of computing and coding concepts that they will be able to use in computer programming they do in the future. This camp includes camp games and activities throughout the week.

  • AR/VR Creation using CoSpaces  (ages 12-14)

    Highlights: Step into a different reality of your own creation. Campers will use CoSpaces to create and code an AR/VR experience to share with others. They will learn the basics of block coding, as well as bringing in 3D models from other programs. Code, collaborate and use your imagination to immerse yourself into the experience! 

    Requirements to view the creations in AR/VR (not essential for the camp):

  • Sports & Wellbeing Camp (ages 8-12)

    Times available: 1:00-2:00pm
    Instructor: Mike Brisbois
    Highlights: Campers will have the opportunity to further their learning and skill development in traditional sports like soccer, basketball, track & field and many more. Learning will be tailored to what resources campers have at their homes. Bonus drills and activities will also be offered for campers who wish to continue being active outside of camp sessions. Creative challenges, videos and activities will allow campers to have fun at home and still engage and connect with peers of similar ages. Finally, a focus on personal health and well being during these unique times will be stressed throughout the sessions. Campers will engage in yoga, body weight workouts and meditation.

    Highlights: It is more important than ever for countries around the world to come together to battle global issues.  Challenge yourself this summer to think and respond to issues from a different perspective. This two-week camp offers a crash course into the purpose and function of the United Nations and will finish with an age-appropriate Model UN simulation. Campers will be asked to think critically, research, debate and work on their communication skills. During the second week of the camp, campers will work alongside a partner to research and represent their assigned country in our Model UN simulation. No experience required!

  • Debate Camp - Offered by Debate Club Canada (ages 10-15)

    Highlights: Debate Camp Canada is pleased to offer 2 formats for learning debate online this summer, including a 1-week camp, 9:00am-noon (options throughout June and July) to learn Parliamentary Debate, British Parliamentary Debate, and a Debate and Public Speaking program. We have also developed afternoon sessions, 2 x 90 min each week - also available in 3-week sessions from June 1 through mid-July and again in October through November.  All sessions maintain a low instructor-student ratio 1:4 or 1:6 - and have proven to be excellent ways in which to learn debate (in these times). Multiple learning levels; OPEN (beginner) PLUS (experienced) and LEVEL-UP (competitive).

    Highlights: Enjoy the thrill and competition of your favourite camp games with our new Virtual Camp Session. Interact with campers and counselors while participating in camp classics, such as rock/paper/scissors, charades, trivia, pictionary, puzzles, and many more games adapted for the virtual environment. Make new friends and learn about different themes each week as we tackle sports, nature, arts, world cultures and more with Crescent Camp Games.

  • CSI: Crescent School Investigations Camp (ages 10-13)

    Highlights: Become a Super Sleuth! CSI: Crescent School Investigations will offer students the chance to go undercover by creating new identities and personas in order to solve the mystery crime. As an investigator, campers will explore different methods of solving crimes including fingerprint and handwriting analysis as well as some age-appropriate methods used by forensic investigators.

  • Lunch It Up (age 12+)

    Highlights: Lunch will never be the same! From Chef Vince's kitchen to yours, campers will learn to navigate a kitchen and its tools, while preparing lunch using fresh ingredients. A different menu each day, campers will enjoy their culinary creations that can be shared with the whole family. Menu includes: Kicked up grilled cheese; Fried rice bowl with chicken and veggies; Creamy mac & cheese; Monster meatball sandwich, and Vince's famous homemade Smash burger. Grocery list to be provided in advance. All meals can be diet adjusted, please let us know of any dietary restrictions in advance.

    Highlights: In Books & Beyond, we will celebrate all things BOOKS! Each week will feature a different genre or type of text. During our sessions together we'll share what we've been reading, review books, complete trivia challenges, and of course, we'll stretch our creative muscles in a variety of fun activities!
