One of the top independent schools for boys in Canada, Crescent School spans 30 lush rolling acres in midtown Toronto. Now in our second century, we provide rich and diverse experiences and opportunities for boys in Grades 3-12 to learn, grow and thrive. Character has always been at the centre of a Crescent education supporting our mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Since 1913, Crescent School’s focus has been on character development. It is part of our DNA and involves a deep uncompromising commitment to three essential areas we believe bring out the best in boys: relational learning, mentoring and character-in- action. A school that truly understands what makes boys tick, Crescent is here to meet your son’s development needs every step of the way.
Finding the right school for your son is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Thank you for considering Crescent School. We invite you to apply through our online application form. Or, learn more about us by exploring our website or attending an Open House. We look forward to providing your Boy of Promise with the support he needs to become a courageous Man of Character.
A Crescent education is exciting, fulfilling and broad. Our curriculum is taught by highly motivated, supportive teachers who understand that establishing a relationship with your son unlocks the door to learning and engages him in his character development. Your son will be celebrated for both his work and his work ethic as we guide him academically and emotionally on his journey to becoming a Man of Character.
Character-in-Action programs are Crescent's co-curricular activities that provide boys with ample opportunities to develop character outside the classroom. Through clubs and teams in the arts, business, robotics and athletics, your son will discover new interests and build his leadership skills. And our outreach programs will allow him to gain compassion for others both in our community and abroad.
The generosity of our Crescent community provides vital support for our new facilities, signature academic programs and Student Financial Aid. Contributions, no matter what their size, allow us to deliver the best possible education for our boys – and help ensure that we continue to fulfil our mission: Men of Character from Boys of Promise.
Crescent School doesn’t slow down when regular classes are out. Our Summer Academic Program helps high school students "reach ahead" to accelerate learning or lighten next year’s course load. Our March Break and Summer Camps offer girls and boys the best of Crescent in a day camp setting, with programs in robotics, athletics, business, leadership, the arts and more.
Employment at Crescent School is an opportunity to build a rewarding career and belong to a dynamic community where all are respected for their contributions. Our employees share a commitment to excellence that has made us one of the top schools for boys in Canada. An equal-opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation and benefits and believe strongly in workplace accessibility.
Crescent School’s Summer Academic Program is designed for students seeking a “reach ahead”, versus remedial summer learning opportunity. Crescent’s high academic standards allow students to accelerate their learning or lighten their course load in the coming school year.
Teaching and understanding happen in class. Learning occurs at home, when lessons are processed and the homework is done. The quantity of homework depends on the course and on the student; some lessons will have more homework than others. Grade 12 courses will have more homework than Grade 10 courses. Depending on the course, there can be class time devoted to homework completion; this is also an excellent opportunity to get extra help.
Students can expect a fast-paced learning environment, much more so than year-long courses. This format may not be suitable for all students. (Single credit courses require 110 hours of class time; this is compressed into four intense weeks in a summer course at Crescent.)
For students with an IEP, Crescent can accommodate extra time on tests and examinations. Other accommodations should be discussed with the Summer Academic Program Director to determine if a fast-paced summer course is the best choice. In any case, students must identify whether they have an IEP at the time of registration, and provide a copy of the student’s IEP to the Program Director no later than May 31, 2019.
No. Summer courses are not "easy credits". They are accredited courses that prepare students for further study in the discipline. All courses are taught and evaluated to Crescent School's high academic standards and rigorous evaluation, the same as during the regular school year.
A student who formally withdraws from the program by July 5, 2019 willnotreceive a final grade. Beyond this date, grades must be recorded on his/her transcript according to Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines.
All cancellations and refunds are subject to the following policies:
All cancellations must be made in writing (ie. fax, email or letter) to the Director, Summer Academic Program.
Refunds, less a $100.00 administrative fee, will be issued for course cancellations up to May 26, 2019.
On or after May 27, 2019, no refunds will be provided unless a medical certificate accompanies the request.
Pro-rated refunds or credits are not available for days absent.
Crescent School reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum enrolment is not met. If we have to cancel a course, we will do our best to accommodate the student in an alternate course, or provide a full refund.
Transfers:
All transfer requests must be made in writing (ie. fax, email or letter) to the Director, Summer Academic Program.
No. Courses in our Summer Academic Program are taught and evaluated to Crescent School's rigorous standards. Students' final grades are determined by their performance on evaluated items such as quizzes, assignments, tests and the final examination.
All courses have a final exam, which will be written on Friday, July 19, 2019 between 8:30 - 10: 30 a.m. (For Grade 10 Canadian History, the final exam will be written on Friday, July 12.)
On Friday, July 19, 2019, students will verbally receive their final grade from the teacher. A written report will be sent to the student's home in late August. For non-Crescent students, a copy of this report will be sent in late September to the home school indicated on the student's registration form.
