Your Admissions Team

To help us prepare for the interview portion of the application process, we ask that you supply a recent photograph, as well as telling us a bit about yourself. It seems appropriate then, that you have an introduction to our Admissions Team.

 

 

Christopher White: Director of Admissions
All grade 3, 5, 10 and 11 applicants, as well as some of the applicants who apply to grades 7 and 9, will meet with Mr. White. Mr. White has 15 years of experience guiding families through respective admissions processes at both the independent school and university level.  He has taught grades 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12, and has a coaching history that includes soccer and baseball.  At Crescent, Mr. White coaches Junior Soccer and Senior Baseball.

 

Alanna Sanderson: Admissions Coordinator
Ms. Sanderson is your facilitator. She has been supporting families through the process of admissions for over 10 years, nine of them with Crescent School. Alanna arranges candidate interviews and tours, is the first to greet you at our Open Houses, tracks your son's progress through our admissions process and more. Ask her your questions; her part is to make your application experience a positive one.

 

Sandra Boyes: Head of Lower School

If you are applying to grade 4, Dr. Boyes is who you will meet. Dr. Boyes has over 17 years of experience working in boys’ schools. Actively involved in the development of our boy-centric curriculum, Dr. Boyes is perparing an action research project (on the impact of boys' engagement and reflection on their own learning) to present at the International Boys' School Coalition in Melbourne in July 2012.  As both a performer and conductor, Dr. Boyes established the Crescent vocal program as a centre of excellence, and oversees our Lower School choir group who perform throughout the world.

 

Robert Cranston: Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher
Mr. Cranston is in his 27th year of teaching. He spent his first five years with the public school system and has been at Crescent School ever since. He is the Mathematics Curriculum Head for the Lower School and is a grade 6 Form Teacher. Mr. Cranston teaches Mathematics and Science. As the grade 6 Math teacher, he has been very successful in preparing his students for the Canadian Mathematics League and Pythagoras Mathematics Contests. He is also a member of our Lower School Admissions Team.

 

David Young: Head of Middle School
Mr. Young is a member of the Middle School Admissions Team. He has taught in Scotland, England and the Czech Republic before meandering his way to Canada. He adores soccer which he calls football. He played professionally and loves to coach the Crescent teams. Mr. Young teaches grade 8 History.

 

Ari Hunter: Grade 8 Homeroom Teacher

Mr. Hunter joined Crescent in 2006 having just completed a masters degree in Child Study and Education at OISE/UofT. He spent his first two years teaching grade 3 in the Lower School - a time he affectionately looks back on as "magical." In 2008 he joined the Middle School Faculty and for the past four years has enjoyed teaching in the English and History Departments as well as acting as a grade 7 and grade 8 Mentor. Mr. Hunter is also the Head Coach of the Senior Basketball Team and has co-facilitated two International Outreach Trips to Honduras. Having had the opportunity to teach, coach and lead in all three divisions of Crescent, Mr. Hunter is thrilled to join the Admissions Team and looks forward to applying his experience and knowledge to the admissions process.

 

 

Godric Latimer Kim: Head of Drama
Mrs. Latimer Kim sits on the Middle School Admissions Team and interviews grade 7 and 8 applicants. She teaches Drama in our Upper School. Previously, she taught Middle School Drama and was a member of Crescent Student Services (CSS), where she coordinated the Learning Skills program for the Middle School.

 

Mark Suckling: Grade 8 Homeroom Teacher
Mr. Suckling is a member of our Upper School Admissions Team and interviews grade 9 applicants. He has been teaching Middle School boys for more than 10 years and is currently a grade 8 Homeroom Teacher and Mentor. He teaches grade 8 Mathematics which includes an expanded problem solving component, and he participated in International Outreach experiences to Thailand and Tanzania and has summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro alongside four Upper School students. As the grade 7 basketball coach, he has travelled with his team over the years to various regions of Canada for the annual CAIS Under 13 basketball tournament.
