Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) encompasses
independent schools that operate within Canada or offer a curriculum
leading to a Canadian diploma. Member schools are non-profit institutions
with elected boards of governors that hire a Head to manage the
operations of the school. To qualify, schools must offer an academic
program that will prepare students for entrance to institutions

The Canadian Educational Standards Institute
(CESI) was founded to promote high educational standards while
recognizing the independence and integrity of each accredited
school. Member schools must have five years experience and are
regularly evaluated. CESI’s standards cover mission and
objectives, values, discipline, academic and extracurricular programmes,
organization, administration, personnel, school and community,
admissions, governance, financial management and physical plant.

The Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario (CIS) is a membership
association that provides a collegial forum for the promotion
of excellence among its member schools. The programme of study
at CIS schools is designed to prepare students for entrance into
post-secondary educational institutions. CIS member schools must
have a governing body that operates at arm’s length from

The Council of Advanced Placement Schools in Ontario
was founded in May 2002 at a meeting of educators in public, Catholic
and independent schools from across the province. The council
is directed by executive officers representing the various types

The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) is a
voluntary membership organization for more than 1,200 independent
schools and associations in the United States and internationally.

Founded in 1995, the International Boys’ Schools Coalition
is a not-for-profit coalition of independent, parochial and public
schools from around the world dedicated to the education and development
of boys, the professional growth of those who work with them and
the advocacy and advancement of institutions – primarily
