ACADEMICS      SUPPORT SERVICES      University Counselling    Philosophy  - Counsellors - University Placement

The university counselling programme at Crescent School is rooted in the notion of helping students and families discover the university landscape throughout the world so as to foster the best match between students and post-secondary institutions. We believe that this journey can be a very exciting one filled with elements of self-discovery and a deeper understanding of goals and aspirations.

To this end, we introduce students in their grade 10 year to the university world by injecting a programme into the mandatory Careers class that initiates this first level of engagement. In the grade 11 year, we have made the PSAT mandatory for all students so that a sense of standardized testing as prepared by the College Board can be more directly appreciated. We hope that this will better prepare our students for other standardized testing that they are likely to encounter such as SATs, AP exams and other professional school entrance tests like the LSAT, MCAT and GMAT.

We also start to engage both parents and students in this process in grade 11 through a series of questionnaires, workshops and personal interviews so that communication lines are opened early between the school, students and parents who must all work together in harmony.

By the graduating year, students will work directly with their university counsellor in formulating the best application plan in the hopes of having a variety of excellent post-secondary choices in the Spring.

Crescent School is fortunate to be visited each year by well over 30 universities from around the world. This helps students and parents better appreciate and understand the nuances of schools and programmes. In the end, we hope that the university counselling experience is both a positive and growth-enhancing one for all involved and that the result will always be considered ‘a match that was made, rather than a prize that was won’.
