 ADMISSIONS    THE PROCESS     Grade 3 - Grade 4 - Grade 5, 6, & 8 - Grade 7 & 9, 10, 11

 

Thank you for your interest in Crescent School. Crescent School strives for a diverse student population and hopes to attract applicants who have strong academic skills and a variety of personal interests and accomplishments. To determine an applicant’s readiness to meet the challenges and demands of the school, the Admissions Committee considers a student’s previous reports, entrance test results, co-curricular interests, and its impressions of the student from a personal interview. Entrance to Crescent School is competitive; early application is recommended.

Grades 7 and 9 are entry years and we admit 22 to 25 new students. Although, few boys leave Crescent before graduation applications are accepted for grades 10 and 11 in the event places become available.

As a supplement to the Admissions process, students and their parents are invited to attend our Open House on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. If this date is inconvenient, there will be another on Thursday, November 23, 2006, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. There is one Mini-Open House in the winter; Tuesday, January 30, 2007, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and two Mini-Open Houses in the spring; Thursday, April 19, 2007, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday, May 15, 2007, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m .

Complete the application form and submit it to the school. Please mark the envelope “Admissions” and address it to the school. The application deadline is:

Friday , December 15, 2006 .

There is an application fee of $125 for applications from within Canada and $200 for applications submitted from outside of Canada. We also require a copy of your son’s birth certificate.

  • Acknowledgement Card

Note: the acknowledgement card is not available in our website application package. One will be completed for you when your application is received in the Admission office.

Please complete your name and address on the front of the Acknowledgement Card. Indicate on the back of the card, whether you require a tour of the school and return it with your completed application. Once your application is received in the Admissions Office we will return your Acknowledgement Card and contact you to arrange your tour and interview date .

  • School Reports

Please submit copies of your son’s report cardsfor June and December 2005 as soon as possible. If recent reports are not available, please ask your son’s teacher to write a confidential reference on his behalf. The June 2006 report should accompany your application package submission.

  • Interview

Each boy applying to grade 7 will be interviewed by a member of middle school admission team. Each boy applying to grades 9-11 will be interviewed by the Director of Admissions, Mr. David Budden. Once an application has been received, the Admissions Assistant, Ms. Alanna McIver, will call to arrange a mutually convenient time for you and your son to come in for his personal interview and a tour of the school if required. The interview process will begin in mid October 2006 and carry through to the middle of February 2007.

A Parent Information Evening will be held:

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. (add link to 7 evening pdf) for our grade 7 applicants and Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. for (add link to US evening pdf) grades 9-11 applicants.

Curriculum and co-curricular activities will be discussed and parents will have an opportunity to meet and pose questions to the grade teachers as well as the Heads and Assistant Heads of each school.

Grade 7: Head of Middle School, Mr. Mark Hord and Assistant Head of Middle School, Mr. David Young

Grade 9-11: Head of Upper School, Mr. Colin Lowndes and Assistant Head of Upper School, Mr.David Budden.

Candidates applying to grades 7, 9, 10 or 11 are required to write the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). The SSAT Registration Information brochure should be included with this application package. Visit www.ssat.org/ontario and there you will find several different test dates and locations to choose from.

SSAT writing deadlines for Crescent School:
   Grade 7 and 9 applicants: January 26, 2007
   Grade 10-11 applicants: February 16, 2007
   The test centre code for Crescent School is 2667.

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) consists of two parts: a brief essay, and a multiple-choice aptitude test which measures ability to solve mathematics problems, to use language, and to comprehend what is read. The test is administered on two levels: Lower (for students currently in grades 5-7) and Upper (for students currently in grades 8-11).

Detailed instructions are included in this package.

Once all applicants have completed the Admission process, Crescent School will be able to determine which students are best-suited and best-prepared to join our school. Admission decision letters will be mailed:
Grades 7 & 9:Monday, February 26, 2007 - Response deadline: Wednesday, March 7, 2007
Grades 10 & 11:Mid-late April, 2007 - Response deadline: approx. 10 days after letter date
