Entrance Test

The grade 3 applicants write the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test (CCAT). The test takes place at Crescent School in January (please see the Important Dates page for exact date and time). The test is age-appropriate and is designed so that students can be successful without any tutoring prior to the test date. The test booklet and process is user-friendly and each component is clearly explained and clarified. Some sample questions are provided HERE file for your consideration.

Applicant Assessment Activities

All grade 3 applicants attend an assessment activities morning. The morning is organized and directed by our Lower School faculty who work with younger boys on a regular basis and understand their needs and developmental stages.

The assessment will include both individual seat work and group work activities in the classroom covering Math, Science, Language Arts, and Art. As well there is a gymnasium activity where boys will participate in group, cooperative and individual active tasks. A snack (nut-free) is provided during social time to round out the morning.

The observations being made include how well a boy: settles down to assigned tasks in structured and unstructured academic, athletic and artistic settings; interacts with his peers in an academic, athletic and artistic and social setting; listens to instructions and then acts upon them; and how he participates in a constructive and positive manner with the teachers and other boys.

Parent Information Evening
