 ADMISSIONS    THE INTERVIEW

Interviews

All candidates to Grades 3, 4, 7, and 9-11 receive an interview. Interviews are arranged once a completed application package is received. Ms. Alanna Sanderson, Admissions Assistant, will call to arrange a mutually convenient time for you and your son to come in for his personal interview and a tour of the School.

Once it has been determined how many places - if any - are available, a few candidates for grades 5, 6 and/or 8 may be invited to attend a personal interview based upon the outcome of the entrance examinations. The interview process for non-entry grades begins after March Break.

Preparation

While Crescent is a uniformed boy’s school, we understand your son will have to return to his home school once the interview is over. We recommend that your son is neatly attired but comfortable. Whether he chooses a suit and tie, his current school uniform or simply pressed khakis with a plain golf shirt, it is important that his attire reflects who he is so that he feels like himself.

Formal interview preparation is not encouraged. To help ease any anxiety, we suggest your son think of three (3) “Things about me.” His list could include accomplishments, talents, awards, heroes, etc. He may bring something to show (no living creatures, please) however, we suggest that it should not be so large that it could not fit in a standard paper lunch bag.

The following briefly outlines the interview process for each grade.

Candidates for grade 3 will be interviewed by Mr. David Budden, Director of Admissions. The interview begins with a family tour of our School. Mr. Budden will then meet one-on-one with your son for approximately 10 minutes. Parents then join the candidate for an opportunity to ask questions and receive some feedback and additional information. The entire interview process takes approximately 90 minutes.

Grade 4 candidates are interviewed by Mr. Ross MacDonald, Head of Lower School. The interview process is approximately 30 minutes. Mr. MacDonald will meet one-on-one with your son for approximately 10-15 minutes. Parents are then asked to join the candidate for an opportunity to ask questions and receive some feedback and additional information. An optional tour of the School will add approximately 30 minutes to the appointment.

Each candidate for grade 7 will be interviewed by one of four Middle School interviewers: Mr. Mark Hord, Head of Middle School, Mr. Michael Ruscitti, Assistant Head of Middle School, Mr. Mark Suckling, Head of Middle School Mathematics or Ms. Godric Latimer Kim, Middle School Drama.

The interview begins with a one-on-one meeting between the candidate and interviewer. Parents are then asked to join the candidate for an opportunity to ask questions and receive some feedback and additional information. The entire interview process takes approximately 45 minutes. An optional tour of the School will add approximately 30 minutes to the appointment.

Each candidate for Upper School, Grades 9-11 will be interviewed by the Director of Admissions, Mr. David Budden.

Grades 5 and 6 candidates are interviewed by Mr. Robert Cranston, Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher and Grade 8 candidates will be interviewed by one of four Middle School interviewers: Mr. Mark Hord, Head of Middle School, Mr. Michael Ruscitti, Assistant Head of Middle School, Mr. Mark Suckling, Head of Middle School Mathematics or Ms. Godric Latimer Kim, Middle School Drama.

Interviews for non-entry years take place after March Break once it has been determined that there are places available. Based upon entrance examination results, selected applicants are invited for a one-on-one meeting between the candidate and interviewer. Parents are then asked to join the candidate for an opportunity to ask questions and receive some feedback and additional information. The entire interview process takes approximately 30 for Grades 5 and 6 candidates and approximately 45 minutes for Grade 8 candidates. An optional tour of the School will add approximately 30 minutes to the appointment.
